Los Red Sparowes son un grupo de post-rock instrumental nacido en Los Angeles. Sus arpegios y acordes son agradablemente tranquilos y melancólicos, juraría que influenciados tanto por los Pink Floyd más oscuros como por los primeros Sonic Youth. También se encuentran pinceladas de las otras bandas de sus componentes (Neurosis y Pelican, para nombrar un par), pero eso no desgracia su sonido característico. En sus discos los Red Sparowes han tomado el rol de cuentacuentos, relatando musicalmente historias de frustración y aceptación, y plasmándolas en los nombres de las canciones.
Every Red Heart Shines Toward the Red Sun es (aparte del álbum con el título más largo que hemos puesto por aquí) su aportación más interesante a mi parecer. En él se cuenta la aniquilación de los gorriones (sparrow, en inglés) en la China comunista de 1950, y la consecuente plaga de langostas que dejó el país sin comida y mató de hambre a 40 millones de chinos. Uh. Y además, es un disco muy bonito. ¡Recomendado para todos!

7. Millions starved and we became skinnier and skinnier, while our leaders became fatter and fatter. 9:54
8. Finally, as that blazing sun shone down upon us, did we know that true enemy was the voice of blind idolatry; And only then did we begin to think for ourselves. 8:03
